Equivalency Test for Basic Leadership and/or Program Age Level

Experienced Girl Scout volunteers who have not taken training, but have been a troop/group leader for two or more years, or have had training in another council may take an equivalency test to satisfy leadership training requirements.

Equivalency testing is allowed for Basic Leadership Training and one Program Age Level training. Any additional program age level trainings must be taken in the classroom or as independent home study.
To receive credit for Basic Leadership and Program Age Level equivalency test, a volunteer must meet the following criteria:

  • Have been a troop/group leader, assistant leader, or co-leader for at least two full years.
  • Be currently registered with the Girl Scout Council of St. Croix Valley.
  • Have completed and submitted a Volunteer Application Form with references to the council office, and have received the Volunteer Letter of Appointment (sent by council staff when application is completed).
  • Receive a grade of 90% or better on the test (listed below):

Equivalency tests for Basic Outdoors Skills (BOS) or Intermediate Outdoor Skills (IOS)

To begin either the BOS or IOS equivalency process, please fill out either the Basic Outdoor Skills Equivalency Request or the Intermediate Outdoor Skills Equivalency Request. The council staff will then send you the appropriate test, packet, and/or book. Please note that Intermediate Outdoor Skills has three parts to the equivalency process:

  1. Completion of Basic Outdoor Skills and the completion of the Exemption Inquiry Form.
  2. Completion and acceptance of the Intermediate Outdoor Skills written exam.
  3. Completion of the Demonstration of Skills test, a one-on-one or small group session, that tests skills on compasses, stoves, knots, tents, etc. Additional details about the Demonstration of Skills test will be given to volunteers upon successful completion of the written exam. Council staff will contact volunteers to arrange a meeting time and place for the Demonstration of Skills test.
